I don’t mean big like length of time. I don’t mean it was the hardest trip I’ve led. It wasn’t the trip where my pack was heaviest.

But it was the most impactful.

I was an adventure trip leader for teenagers all over the world, on-and-off for about seven years. I guided on a freelance basis. The job took me to big cities and to remote mountain passes. On this particular trip, it took me to Australia.

When Backpacks.com approached me and asked me what my most meaningful backpacking experience was, I had memories of this specific trip in my head and heart immediately.

Here is the link to the story, now live on Backpacks.com. I hope you’ll check it out!

Backpacks.com is a new site that just launched, aiming to house the right pack for every journey– be it city, mountain, or somewhere in between. My new pack has been hiking, kayaking, and has spent a lot of time inside a less-exciting convention center, at meetings and coffee shops.

  1. Hey!
So random but I’ve been following your blog for awhile and wanted to reach out. You actually interviewed me for a job with your previous company a few years ago, and even though I went with a different company, with the magic of social media you came up as a suggested person I follow on Instagram. It has been so fun to follow your adventures and see everything you’ve accomplished, I feel so inspired! I’m still dabbling in the student travel industry, but it’s always so cool to see how other people broaden their reach in the outdoor world. Let me know if you’re ever in the SoCal area and Keep doing you girl.

    • Hey Caitlin! Of course, I remember you! So happy you found me here. The student travel industry is so fun, I’m sure I will be back someday. Thank you so much for following along and all the best in your adventures!

I just popped over to backpacks.com to read your post. It actually kind of made me want to cry a little (could be pregnancy hormones…) because the past two summers, I got to be a leader for week-long backpacking trips into the wilderness. Then an unexpected pregnancy changed all of that. Thanks for reminding me of the beauty and honesty of those adventures 🙂

    • Thank you so much Caity! Pregnancy must be a huge adventure and you are a total warrior for embarking on it. It sounds like you will lead trips again someday. Thank you for sharing your heart 🙂
